An appeal lodged by W. W. Brown, lan employee of the New Zealand j Farmers' Fertiliser Company, against the decision of the man- ; power officer depriving him of five j and a half days' pay for the time he I was suspended from his work was | heard at a sitting of the Auckland i Industrial Manpower Committee : yesterday afternoon. The case, which was stated to be | the first of its kind to be dealt with by the committee, arose out of the | suspension of Brown for refusing to ! shovel rock phosphate. It was stated i that Brown maintained he was not i physically fit for the work, but he : refused to produce a, doctor's certi- | flcate. A medical board arranged by ; the manpower officer declared him i to be fit for the work. I The appellant claimed that the I manpower officer had delayed unj duly in the matter, and he had therefore lost more days than he should have. I Mr. W. A. Leggett said that the : manpower officer was not being ini- ; peached, and he had not been re- | sponsible for the delay in the outj put of 2000 tons of phosphate rock, | as the appellant had been. ; The appeal was dismissed.
