WATER VIXEN PLEASES
ACTIVITIES AT TAKANINI
The Ohinemuri Cup favourite, Water Vixen, was responsible for a satisfying trial on the outside grass at Takanini this morning, the Foxbridge mare traversing a mile with Merry May in 1.44 3-5. ■ The first half mile was run in 51 3-ss, and both horses were under a nice hold In the concluding stages, when they could have done better. Although from the time point of view there was nothing startling about Laddie Boy's defeat of Foxola over five furlongs in 1.4, the manner in which the firstnamed infused dash into his task suggested that he Is probably better at this stage than for some time past. Richelieu and Stepping ran five furlongs from the six to the one in 1.3 2-5, the same section being traversed- by Hayduk in 1.1 3-5. This is the fastest section of the track, and up to the present Hayduk has shown no form in his races. In the main, other work consisted merely in serviceable tasks on the plough, those to please including Sweet Biscuit, Royal Merit, Cambria and Balfron. So far as Takanini horses are concerned, the only acceptor which is unlikely to start at Paeroa is Hazroy, a winner recently at Matamata.
