SMART SPRINTS AT ELLERSLIE There was more fast work than usual at Ellerslie this morning, but owing to the bad light—sunglare— a number of tt»e gallops cculd not be timed. No. 1 grass track was open, the going being excellent. The best workout was credited to Hunting King, which beat a companion over foitr furlongs run in 48 3-ss. Hunting King is doing well and will be in great order for winter racing. The two-year-olds Blueberry and Broielov left half a mile behind in 49 2-ss. Blueberry has never raced, but is showing a fair amount of promise. Battle Pal was in front of Elect at the conclusion of five furlongs, which occupied 1.3 3-s—a good trial. Corot was sent seven furlongs, and ran the last six in 1.16 2-5, the final half mile taking 50 l-ss. Landveyor came home from the three furlong post in 395. In a similar task Tagore and Gaelic Salute took 39 2-ss, both going nicely at the finish. Default also sprinted three furlongs in 395, Royal Duchess taking 40s. Other gallops were:— Four Furlongs.—Quick Draw, 50s; Recipient, Saffron Walden, 49 3-ss; Home Guard, 49 4-ss; Kraal, 495; Cowper, 49 2-ss. Five Furlongs.—Mashona and Ross, 1.5; Dinky Di, 1.7 3-5, doing it easily. Going evenly all the way, Victory Lass traversed a round In 1.57 3-5, the last six furlongs taking 1.20 1-5.
