CITY MORTUARY
COMPLAINT TO BOARD
IMPROVEMENTS TO BE MADE
Recently Mr. J. H. Luxford, SM made a verbal complaint to the chair' man of the Auckland Hospital Board Mr. Allan J. Moody, concerning the state of the mortuary at the hospital and the flies in the mortuary. At last night's meeting of the board when the matter was referred to by the buildings committ*, Mrs M. M. Dreaver asked if it was not a fact that the mortuary bel*iged ta the Auckland City Councils Mr. Moody replied that the Citv Council paid the Hospital Board £75 a year to keep the morgue in order Only yesterday he had seen the' Mayor, Mr. Allum, and city engineer Mr. J. Tyler, about the matter and he could assure the board that immediate steps were being taken to repaint the mortuary and make it' much better. Mrs. Dreaver reminded members that some years ago Dr. Walter Gilmour had suggested that a number of improvements should be carried out, including the installation of a refrigerating plant. "The trouble is that the mortuary is far too small and has been for years out of date" added Mrs. Dreaver. "I think it is high time the City Council built a new city mortuary." The committee's report was adopted.
