Americans On New Britain And Admiralty Islands

X.Z. Press Association—Copyright Rec. 2.30 p.m. SYDNEV, this day. Important land successes in New Britain and the Admiralty Islands, are reported by General Mac Arthur's communique to-day. American marines have made a new landing near Talasea. on the Willaumez Peninsula (north coast of New Britain). They encountered only light enemy opposition. These marines comprised elements of the United States ground forces moving up the Now Britain coast from Cape Gloucester. Their landing near Talasea represents a gain of 110 miles. Moving out from Arawe (on the south coast of New Britain) American patrols have reached a point 24 miles east of Arawe airfield. In the Admiralty Islands American forces now control Los Negros and the Momote airstrip is ready to receive our planes. The Americans are continuing their northward advance and have taken the beach on the west coast of Seadler Harbour. , ~ West of Momote aerodrome, they have occupied Porloka, capturing Japanese .4.Tin naval guns in concrete emplacements. Allied air units have attacked enemy positions as far back as Lorengau. in Manus Island. Our naval units destroyed enemy shore batteries. . , The Americans have buried 4/0 additional Japanese dead.
