HOUSING IN COUNTRY
LEGISLATION NOT USED

WELLINGTON, this day. Local bodies in rural districts had refused to make use of the legislation under which they could have borrowed money at 3 per cent for the erection of houses for workers in the primary industries, said Mr Anderton (Govt, Eden) In the Ad-dress-in-Reply debate in the House of Representatives. Had they operated that machinery more nouses would have been available to-day The Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Holland, had said that the farmers would deliver the goods if they were given the tools, continued the speaker. During the war years the farmers had a greater quantitv of tcols and plant than ever before From 1935 to 1941 the number of milking plants in use had increased by over 5000, shearing machines by almost 3000, and tractors by more than 7000. There were 143,000 men and 10,000 women engaged in primary industry to-day. v
