FIRED ON BY BOY
ANOTHER L.AD WOUNDED (P.A.) OAMARU, Monday. Four Oamaru t>oys had an alarming experience late yesterday afternoon when they were shot at by another lad with a pea-rifle and later with a double-barrelled shotgun. As a result of the shooting one of the boys, Ernest Little, aged 16 years, is in the Public Hospital. He receiyed a charge of shot in the head, thigh and chest and a leg, and an operation was performed later. The hospital authorities reported to-day that Little was progressing favourably. The scene of the shooting was the Old Mill Road, near the water wheel. The four boys«were inspecting the mill wheel when they were fired upon by a boy 12 years of age. They were alarmed and hurriedly returned to the road. Three of them climbed a rise beside the face of the borough council's quarry. The fourth, Little, who was keeping a watch on the boy using the weapon and was standing on the edge of the quarry face, received a charge of shot. Although severely wounded Little was able to make his way down to the roadway and was conveyed by a passing motorist, first to a doctor's surgery and then to the hospital.
The police are searching for the culprit.
