THOMAS BRACKEN
The centenary of Thomas Bracken stands as one in the field of journalism who wrote true and lovable work. His poem. "Not Understood." is a classic. "Musings in Maoriland" shows what Bracken was. a lover of Nature in every form. Bracken was known far from our country and deeply appreciated by al! lover? of literature. In his wc"k "The New Zealand Tourist," on the South Island scenery, he hath truly said: "This is the solitude that reason loves, lie who yearns for human sympathies." C. E. McBETH.
