MAORI MEETING HOUSE IN GERMANY
In the article published in the Star of December 17, it was stated that it is believed that the historic Maori house that was shipped away from New Zealand some years ago was in the museum at Hamburg. In 1926 I was touring Germany and.during the tour I made a visit' to the museum in Bremen; to my surprise I saw the Maori house erected there. I was particularly struck with the excellent workmanship of a number of wax models of Maoris that were grouped in front of the meeting house. They were so true to life. There were in addition three or four stuffed sheep, with their heads down on artificial grass, as though they were grazing. Full details as to where the house had come from and information was also given of the wonderful productive nature of New Zealand pastures. H. J. BUTCHER.
