WELCOMED HOME
PACIFIC GARRISON TROOPS A contingent of 480 officers and men just returned from garrison duty in the Pacific zone paraded at Alexandra Park yesterday afternoon and was welcomed home by the AttorneyGeneral, Mr. Mason, on behalf of the Government, and by the deputyMayor, Mr. L. J. Coa'kley. on behalf of the citizens of Auckland.
In command of the party was Major G. G. Hancox, E.D., who stated that the men had served as garrison troops for about eight months. Practically all were grade 2 medically, and it proved that these men could play a worthwhile part in the war effort of New Zealand.
Most of the South Island men travelled by the Limited Express last night, and it was hoped to dispatch the men living in parts of the North Island other than Auckland by the afternoon express to-day.
