DEFEAT OF JAPAN
Unconditional Surrender By
Christmas, 1944
DR. HSIA'S REASONING
Rec. 1 p.m.
NEW YORK, Dec. 10.
Japan will surrender unconditionally by Christmas, 1944, or the following summer at the very latest, declared Dr. Hsia, chief western hemisphere representative of the Chinese Ministry of Information when interviewed by the Christian Science Monitor. He gave as his reasons for this assertion:—(l) Japan is not as tough as some people think. (2) Japan can be beaten to a point of unconditional surrender without land invasion of its home islands. (3) The Japanese Fleet must be immediately divided into three parts for defence, and the first part, which meets the British Fleet in the Indian Ocean or the United States Fleet in the Pacific, will be smashed, resulting in crumbling Japanese morale. Dr Hsia added that China believes in the doctrine of the unconditional surrender of the Japanese, but does not believe the Japanese should be exterminated. He said civilised methods must be used to persuade or compel the Japanese to adopt better ways of international living.
