MAILS FROM THE MIDDLE EAST

It is unfortunately generally acknowledged that there is very considerable delay in the delivery of mails to and from the Middle East and for which no satisfactory explanation is given. I have already been in communication with the Postmaster-General on the matter. The last letter delivered to me was dated September 6; others to whom I have spoken state their letters were dated about the same date. My son writes regularly every week; the Division since it finished in Tunis- has simply been resting and training at the base camp, so there is no excuse that the men were up the line, etc., that would cause delay. I had an airgraph to-day from my relatives in Belfast, Northern Ireland, posted on the 12th ult., telling me they had a letter from my son in the Middle East dated October 8. yet the last letter I had from him is September 6. The question of mail delivery is one which should be taken up by the parents, wives and relatives, and insist on the Government providing a frequent service, if necessary by air. E. D. BOLLARD.
