PROTECTION OF BUSH
Fires in protected native bush in the Dominion, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr. Parry, said, did not occur if thought and care were exercised by the travelling public, campers and other visitors to bush areas during the summer. With the temporary easing of petrol restrictions and the keenness of city people to spend enjoyably a day or a longer period in the country, it was expected that the bush and wavside roads would have many visitors. "It is sincerely felt by all admirers of our country's beautiful trees," Mr. Parry said, "that this summer a record will be established by there being no serious fires in the bush. That record will be m sight of achievement if two words, 'thcughtfulness and watchfulness,' remain in the minds of bush visittors."
