FOR WOMEN SHORT HAIR-DO

FOR ALL WOMEN COIFFURE GUILD'S DECREE (0.C.) SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 5. War has reached right down into the home, and every woman in California, even if she is not engaged directly in the American war effort, will soon feel its effects. This was demonstrated at the annual California Coiffure Guild Beauty and Trade Show when the newest style hair-do's were placed on display for thousands of hair stylists from California and other parts of the United States. The new style hairdress is definitely on the short side—in fact, it is designed to be practical not only for the feminine members of the Armed Services, but for the hardworking women in war industries and their equally hard-working sisters who stay at home and take care of the youngsters and do their own housework, without the aid of the servants to which some of them have been accustomed. Short hair—two or three inches long on the side and not mere than five inches crown length—is decreed. The hair is curled in order not to interfere with military headgear or the safety of feminine workers in war plants. "Time is important to-day," officials of the show pointed out. "The beauty industry, like others, must contribute to the national war effort by doing without many things, by getting along with reduced supplies. Also there is an increased demand for beauty shop services from women in Avar work or busy with war activities. In wartime and with less time to spend on themselves, women want simple, short hair styles. The California Coiffure Guild's new style prediction is softly waved hair for dual purposes, which provides a flattering, youthful air."
