ENEMY VESSEL SUNK
Japs. Attack Allied Ships In Central Solomons N.Z. Press Association—Copyright Rec. 2.30 p.m. SYDNEY, this day. Widespread routine air activity is reported in General Mac Arthur's communique to-day. An enemy ship of 1000 tons has been sunk north of Australia, and in the Northern Solomons area enemy small ships and barges have been attacked. The heaviest raid recorded was in Alexis Hafen—the Madang area, Northern New Guinea—where our bombers dropped 223 tons of explosives. No Japanese fighters were encountered. Three enemy luggers and Ave barges were sunk. The main Japanese air activity was directed against Allied shipping near New Georgia, Central Solomons, where torpedo-planes are reported to have caused some damage.
