CARPENTRY TRAINEES
REPLY TO CRITICISM Replying to critical remarks made by the president of the Master Builders' Association, Mr. H. J. Hulse, regarding the short-period carpentry training scheme, a correspondent says a group of trainees working at Avondale, addressed by Mr. Hulse, were told by him that, except for slight difficulty on an unusual building job, the first trainees had made a good impression on the building trade. "Mr. Hulse," adds the correspondent, "makes the astounding charge that the Government has made no real effort to rehabilitate ex-service-men into the building industry. Yet it was the Government which initiated the carpentry training scheme. We trainees would like it known that we are deeply grateful to those responsible for creating the scheme, for it has made our readjustment to civil life smooth, pleasant and constructive. Because the demand for adult trainees greatly exceeds the supply, some of us, while still undergoing instruction, are gladly accepted by members of the association."
