RETURN TO LIQUOR
INYERCARGIIvL, PROBLEMS (0.C.) INVERCARGILL, Friday. Discussions have taken place in Invercargill this week on the restoration of liquor licenses. Both the City Council and the Chambers ot Commerce have considered the subject. Both agree on the need for a Royal Commission to inquire into alleged anomalies in the licensing laws of the Dominion and the council is interesting itself in the building by-laws as they affect hotels Inquiries are to be made in Dunedin and Auckland on that point. One interesting suggestion is that licensing should be controlled by the civil authorities, but, even "if public opinion were favourable the legal obstacles would be formidable Another point being debated is how many licenses should be granted ti iu Publlc meetin S. convened "by the Mayor, will be held on Monday night to discuss problems raised bv the restoration of licenses and to make representations to the Governlafv"! res Pect of the licensing
