LENIENCY ABUSED
PETROL THIEF CAUGHT
TO SERVE THREE MONTHS
With his head swathed In bandages, Cyril Thomas Snowden, aged 33, in the Police Court to-day pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing four gallons of benzine valued at 11/. Sub-Inspector Harley said that shortly after midnight a four-gallon tin of benzine was taken from a motor car in Albert Street. When accosted Snowden ran away, but was chased and caught. He then admitted he had been looking in cars for petrol. In running away Snowden tripped and fell, causing the injuries to his head. To Snowden, who had nothing to say, Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M., remarked that this was his fifth appearance before the Court. "On August 26 last you were admitted to three years' probation for theft by" the Supreme Court, and here you are again on one of the serious classes of theft," added the magistrate. Snowden was sentenced to three months' imprisonment.
