THE LAND BILL

It would appear that this bill will give the Government the right to say what price a returned man shall pay for a house or farm. The Government has already taken the power to dictate what price shall be paid for produce and appointed itself prac tically as sole distributor. Wages for employees are also fixed. If the Government is really sincere and honest in its intentions to safeguard the interests of the man who has fought for this country, it should guarantee him against any financial loss, provided that he looks after his property in a proper manner. Unless satisfactory safeguards are given, the returned serviceman merely becomes a slave for the Government. He will have to work long hours without overtime— he will have to fight hard to get paid for any improvement he may make, and take a hand'in a.game with the cards stacked againstjhim, the dealer of the cards, the Government, taking a large share of any profits made, in taxation, while losses will be deducted from the'returned man's capital. HUGH G. KENDAL.
