CARRIAGES DERAILED
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, this day. The engine and the second, third, fourth and fifth carriages of the eightcarriage 7.25 a.m. train from Upper Hutt to Wellington, which normally carries 300 to 400 passengers, was derailed a mile north of Andrews Station this morning, stopping traffic on the local and Wairarapa lines. The derailed carriages were left leaning against the bank of the highway on the inner side of a slight curve. The rails were bent and broken, and the track ploughed up. Passengers were lucky to escape injury. One woman suffered a wrenched ankle The train brings in a large number of suburban passengers. There will be considerable delay before the line is cleared.
