WATERSIDERS' APPEALS

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. ''If these men have to go into the army we will be in a state of chaos on the waterfront." said the waterfront controller. Captain Vendenbergh. before the Armed Forces Appeal Board in supporting an appeal,on behalf of SO Grade 1 watersiders, all married with children. When the commission came before the board on the last occasion the required strength was 1632, and to-day the number available was 264 short of that, he said. There were definitely not sufficient men in Wellington. The manpower controller, Mr. Bockett. said they wanted another 200 men .for the waterfront if they could get them. Decision was reserved.
