PATRIOTIC FUND HUTS
(0.C.) WHANGAREI, Tuesday. Concern at the number of j'oung men, possibly Grade 1., occupyling positions as secretaries of National Patriotic Fund Huts,, was expressed at a meeting of the Northland Zone Patriotic Committee. The Bay of Islands committee recommended that wherever possible salaried attendants should be returned soldiers. The national secretary, Mr. G. A. Hayden, said the private's pay provided by the Government for hut attendants was subsidised by the board to bring the total up to £4 weekly. Six were married. The New Zealand huts were regarded as training grounds for similar posts overseas.
