RACELESS DAYS
PREMIER BANS SPORX ON THEM Football bodies in the capital cities of Australia have been ordered by the Prime Minister (Mr. Curtin) not to take advantage of the raceless Saturday, on May 1 by holding special events for the purpose of attracting big crowds. An official spokesman said recently that it had been learned that it was proposed to open the Australian Rules football season in Melbourne on May 1 with a special celebration. This would be banned. It was, however, not intended to interfere with ordinary competition games. In Sydney, the New South Wales Rugby Union is the only football body to open its season's competition on May 1. The Soccer competition began last Saturday and the Rugby League and Australian Rules will commence on Saturday, April 24. .
