MAY MISS TRIP

AUCKLAND HORSES

ACTIVITIES AT TAKANINI

Monte Cristo and Foxola, which are among the entrants for the Riccarton meeting, are unlikely to make the trip south. The Verner pair will probably be seen out at the Auckland Easter fixture, where they have engagements in the chief races. Both horses are in excellent order. • .J.Eagle Hawk has been eased up after a promising showing at Paeroa. He has been returned to his owner meantime, and it is probable that he will be given another trial next season, when there will be more opportunities for one of his class. Sweet Biscuit's sister has arrived at Takanini and has joined P. E. Pope's stable. A shapely filly, the youngster will be good if she emulates the deeds of her well-performed relative, and when she graces the turf she will be known as Broieform. The rising three-year-old filly, Prompt, by Solicitor General—Miss Nightraid, is showing some promise and looks the part of one likely to make her presence felt as a three-year-old. Likes Bit of Distance ' Tweedsmuir is to contest the distance hack event at Ellerslie at Easter. In his three attempts over a 10-furlong journey, the Mr. Standfast galloper has not met with the best of luck, and, if favoured with a decent run on this occasion, he may fulfil expectations. He is looking very well. Dinky Di has seldom looked better than at present. This sprinter has been racing fairly well and it will not be for lack of condition if he fails to win an event before the conclusion of the season. La Rosita is back in work again under the guidance of owner Mr. L. G. Abel. La Rosita showed speed in her races and may be capable of further improvement. Balfron Improving Having fined down after recent racing, the Bulandshar gelding Balfron is in the right condition for the remainder of this season's engagements. At the moment, however, it would appear that both Royal Glory and Olga's Pal will make his Champagne Stakes task difficult, and it will be interesting to note Balfron's progress during the next few weeks. The Easter Handicap at Ellerslie has aroused considerable interest. Monte Cristo, Sleepy Fox, Water Vixen, Tellsom, Cambria, Royal Merit, Lord Chancellor, Beau Vaals and Gold Money Song are Takanini entrants, and, "with the exception of the last-named, all are comparatively recent 'winners. No fault can be found with the condition of Indian Princess, and as she has had time to freshen up she may regain form quickly enough to make a bold bid for honours in the Great Northern Oaks and St. Leger. May Regain Favour Although Representative has to some extent lost caste as a result of his recent showings, the Nightmarch colt looks brighter and better than he has been for some time past, and it would occasion no' surprise if he were found to be in correspondingly better form when next produced. As for jumpers, Takanini is not too well equipped, and the district will be relying on the services of the old campaigners, The Dozer, Saccone and Lapidarian. It can be added in passing that the progress* of the first-named pair is very encouraging, and, all going well, they will earn their share of winter offerings. ...
