ANCHOR OVERBOARD
PROLONGED PERRY TRIP Owing to the act of some persons . in throwing the heavy bow anchor : 3f the Devonport Steam Ferry Company's vessel Makora overboard on [ Saturday night, the midnight trip of ; Lhe service was prolonged by an ; lour. The anchor did not reach the larbour floor, as the windlass held 1 t as soon as the slack ,of the chain ,vas taken up. Passengers heard a . jumping against the bow as the vessel was pulling away from the vharf, but it was not until the boat vas out in the harbour that the jumping became insistent. It took the master and crew learly half an hour to rig up a ackle and hoist the anchor. The vessel then returned to Queen's vharf and the police called in. A lumber of passengers were quesioned, but nobody could give any nformation. Passengers were not ible to disembark at Devonport intil 1.30 a.m.
