AMERICA AND GOLD
In London financial circles it is emphasised that post-war monetary arrangements must depend for their workability upon America's willingness to make initial concessions and sacrifices. Many doubt whether Congress will be willing to go far enough in this direction. The United States Treasury has not yet officially backed the American currency plan. Reports state that a gold stabilisation fund, which the plan envisages, would receive, at the outset, contributions from all countries owning gold, but principally from America itself, thereby providing initial resources for re-establishing international trade and finance after the war.
