MARAUDING CATS

Frequently one hears complaints of marauding dogs, but rarely of the far more trying cat. We have worked extremely hard to establish a garden of vegetables, herbs and perennials. Hordes of cats infest our garden until there is scarcely an unpolluted spot. Herbs are almost unfit for use; if one has to go to unlimited lengths to make something clean enough for the table, one has ceased to be Interested and the produce is probably thrown out. It is high time something was done. In most cases these cats are feared wholesale in poor and dirty homes, where it is a struggle to feet the children, let alone the cats. Can the SP.C.A. do nothing? A measure which would limit any household to one cat would be a tax equal to that levied on the dog. It is high time authorities took steps to stop this plag'/e; any expense could easily be met by the afore-mentioned tax. TAKAPUNA.
