NEW FIREMEN'S AWARD
A new award for country fire brigades in the Auckland industrial district, agreed to by the parties on terms bringing it into line with the corresponding brigades in the southern industrial district, was made by the Arbitration Court yesterday. The Devonport. Takapuna, Gisborne, Hamilton and Rotorua brigades are those affected, and the pay is on the same lines as formerly, ranging from £2 10/ to £6, with an increase of 5/ a week for motor drivers. Provision for uniform holiday periods is the chief change, ensuring each worker with six months' continuous service 28 days' holiday without deduction of pay. The award is for two years from March 15.
