COMFORTS FOR SEAMEN
For distribution to New Zealanders in- the Merchant Navy ovei> seas, 4598 knitted articles had been made from November, 1941, to last month by members of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union and of the Women's Institutes, Auckland Province, said the Rev. H. K. Vickery, of the Flying Angel Missions to Seamen, yesterday. Many of these had been made from homespun wool and others from wool supplied by the Auckland Provincial Patriotic Council. Mr. Vickery said none of these articles were distributed to members of the Merchant Navy calling at Auckland, who received articles from the Ladies' Harbour Lights Guild. Pullovers with polo collars numbered 658; gloves and mittens, 453; pairs scarves, 705; balaclavas, 1043; socks, 778 pairs; caps, 731; sleeveless pullovers, 40; and seaboot stockings, }90 pairs.
