CHILDREN'S UNIFORMS
MANUFACTURE WANTED
request to government
The Government is to be asked to provide for the manufacture of uniforms for school children. The Auckland Education Board made a decision to this effect this morning, after discussing a recent statement by the Minister of Education Mr. Mason, advising the relaxation'of rules regarding uniforms. Mr G. K. Hamilton, in moving the resolution, stated that uniforms were most suitable and economical, and he had found, a general feeling on the part of parents to dress their children this way, with gym-tunics for the girls, and navy shorts and flannel shirts for boys. _ . _ Mr. Hamilton said inquiries had shown that if a few mills concentrated on uniforms for the children, the whole school population could be supplied in two months. Mr A Burns pointed out that uniforms put all children on the same place, and Mr. W. I. Bowyer 'said uniforms looked neat even when threadbare.
