WHARF FATALITY
TALLY CLERK KILLED
CRUSHED AGAINST POST
A tally clerk employed on an Auckland wharf by the United States Army Transport, suffered fatal injuries shortly before 10.30 this morning when he was crushed against a post by a mobile hoist. The victim was: — Mr Patrick Barry, married, of 1, Ngahere Terrace, Parnell. Mr. Barry was seated on a box at the entrance to one of the sheds when he was struck by an American light mobile hoist and suffered grave injuries, of which he died before the arrival of a St. John ambulance from the wharf station. The body was taken_ to the mortuary at the Auckland Hospital. Mr. Barry was a veteran of the South African War, and had served for many years with the Railway Department. An inquest will be opened tomorrow morning.
