CHAIN ACRE IN FORM

Chain Acre, which ran two slashing races at Matamata on February 6,' improved on the same course on Saturday to win the Hot Springs Handicap. After following Babrow into the straight, the son of Surveyor finished on to win nicely, though only by a head. Esquire was in charge at the half-mile, and still led three furlongs from home, where Babrow was commencing to challenge in front of Quination. Turning for home, Babrow was in charge, but as the field levelled up Chain Acre put in * claim, and he overhauled -the favourite half-way down to win decisively. Manuma and Esquire both came home well to dead-heat for third money, and Aguilo was the closest of a bunch.
