A "CORDIAL" FRAUD

FIRM FINED £100 ■ A fine of £100 with £13 13s costs was imposed at Reading on Concentrated Foods, Ltd., New Cavendish Street, London, W., for selling food with a misleading label. Dr. Heinrich Cohen, who described himself as a Palestinian, and his wife, Lucie Cohen, of Fitzjames Avenue, London, directors of the company, were each fined £20. Mr. T. McLoughlin, prosecuting, stated that a bottle of "Limette," described as a concentrated cordial essence, was 96 per cent, water. There was-a small quantity of phosphoric and citric acid with some kind of flavouring. Of 1,000 shares hmhe firm, Dr. Cohen and his wife held all but two. Dr. Cohen said he manufactured the liquid after seeing an analytical chemist.
