INTOXICATION CHARGE

CARRIER FINED £10

Arrested on Saturday night for being in a state of intoxication while in charge of a motor car in Mount Albert Road a carrier. Harold John Arthur Rainbow, aged 23, appeared before Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M., in the Police Court to-day.. Rainbow, for whom Mr. J. ,7. Sullivan appeared, pleaded guilty. Sub-Inspector Joyce said a constable at 11 p.m. on Saturday found Rainbow sifting behind the wheel of his car. He was drunk and was asleep. Later a doctor certified that Rainbow was intoxicated. It was stated by Mr. Sullivan that his client was married and had two children. On Saturday Rainbow started work at 2.30 a.m. and did not finish until.6 p.m., after which he had three glasses, of wine 'at a firend's house. ' "While on his way home Rainbow realised that the wine was taking effect on him and he wiselv stopped his car on the side of the road," said. Mr. Sullivan, "but at, the time he decided to stop he was quite - sober.. Under these unusual circumstances I trust that your worship will, not impose . a prison sentence." The magistrate inflicted a fine ai £10 and cancelled Rainbow's driving license for 12 months.'
