RECENT NATIONAL SAVINGS
"The total national savings receipts for this week are £5104, which is the lowest amount since the weekly quota system was commenced in October, 1941," said Mr. F. E. Sutherland, honorary secretary of the Auckland Metropolitan National Savings Movement. "This response is very disappointing and difficult to understand, especially as ordinary savings totals are breaking all records. The interest return on national savings is higher than on ordinary savings, and there are the two added factors, namely, that national savings deposits go direct to the war effort, and are a definite check against wartime inflation."
