ROTORUA RACES

HELD AT MATAMATA

GINNO WINS THE HURDLES (0.C.) MATAMATA, this day. The annual meeting of the Rotorua Racing Club was held on the Matamata racecourse to-day in ideal weather. There was a large attendance, and the track was again in excellent order. Ran Away From Field Showing vast improvement after recent essays, Ginno, who was capably handled by J. Williamson, ran right away from the field in the concluding stages of the Pohutu Hurdles, winning comfortably by five lengths and returning double figures on the win machine. Radiant Bay went another solid race, moving into the lead along the back, but once passed by Ginno, never looked like catching him in the last furlong. Surpeen battled on for third, just ahead of Surwin, who gave another consistent parformance. Dusky Morn and Native Chief shaped only moderately. Blanket Finish Prince Rewa, runner up to Bevace last Saturday, endorsed the good impression he made then by finishing in determined style to prevail in a blanket finish in the First Mokoia Handicap, with Miss Wheriko, who came home strongly on the rails, to cut the favourite, Llandine, out of second money. Llandine was always well placed, while Two Pals was closer at the finish than at any stage. Sir Grant, who finished right up behind the placed division, came home well, but Sea Mist and Young Autopay, who were clear three furlongs from home tired in the closing stages. Another Close Finish Paymaster, who led into the straight in the open sprint last Saturday, stayed on much better on this occasion, finishing on the rails to win the Tourist Handicap in a blanket finish with Black Thread, whose performance Avould suggest early improvement on the circuit. Noble Eagle came home solidly to hold off British Mint, who weakened in the last 50 yards or so. Viking Path, too, tired in the closing stages, as also did Orwere, who was in the lead three furlongs from home. Results:—
