CIVIL DEFENCE

A TRAINED NUCLEUS

E.P.S. SPECIAL COURSE (0.C.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Minister of Civil Defence, Mr. Wilson, states that a conference of regional commissioners and district controllers has approved a proposed system of universal training for E.P.S. personnel, to be applied in the first instance to first-line units such as warden, law and order communications, medical, fire and works. To ensure that these and other units be kept efficient, frequent practices and trials and occasional blackouts are essential, and will be held. The Minister added that all were impressed with the Prime Minister's statement stressing the need for constant vigilance in civil defence preparedness, and the need for a trained E.P.S. nucleus which could be reinforced in time of peril.
