FREIGHT CHARGES

TO BE STABILISED

NEW TRIBUNAL MOOTED

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Minister of Transport, Mr. O'Brien, stated to-day that in collaboration with the stabilisation authorities he has been consideraing new machinery for dealing with the fixation of freight charges by licensed road transport operators At present these charges were fixed by the four transport licensing authorities he said, but it was likely that under the new proposals one expert with semi-judicial authority would take over this work for the whole Dominion under the stabilisation policy. The decisions of the suggested tribunal would be considered by the Stabilisation Commission. Mr. O'Brien said he anticipated an early announcement regarding the new proposals.
