AMERICAN BURIAL PLOT

A portion of the Waikumete Cemetery has ben set aside for the burial of American servicemen who die in the vicinity of Auckland. This is the outcome of arrangements made between the United States authorities and the Auckland City Council. Already a number of American soldiers are buried there —men who have died from wounds received in the Pacific, or have died as the result of accidents in New Zealand. Each grave is marked by a plain wooden cross bearing the name, rank and other identification.
