Appearing in the dock in the Police Court this morning m a decidedly shaky condition, Goulbourne Chailes Cress, aged 46, a window dresser, pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing a pair of shoes valued at £1 10/ on February 7. . • _ Sub-Inspector Joyce said Cress was working in a hotel where an American officer was a guest. Cress asked the officer for a tram fare to Point Chevalier. The officer gave Cress 3/ and asked him to clean his shoes, but instead of performing this task Cress pawned them and spent the 10/ obtained from the pawnbroker in liquor. He did not return to his employment at the hotel. Cress told the magistrate he had been drinking heavily. "You seem to be saturated and look as if you are also in need of a clean-up," said Mr. F. H.
