DRIVING SHOWERS
CONDITIONS IN THE NORTH SOLDIERS RECALLED TO FIRE (0.C.) WHANGAREI, this day.
• Driving showers, which although of short duration gave promise of ending Northland's long drought, occurred this morning. A drop of 20deg. in temperature was most noticeable after the heat wave.
Soldiers were recalled to Ruakaka last -night when a further ten acres of kauri were ignited from a fire which it was presumed was dead. Although the rain 'had an instant effect on the fires, a heavy downpour is necessary to remove all danger from fires and to restore the life of pastures and plantations.
