AUDACIOUS THEFT

FURNITURE REMOVED HOME ENTERED IN DAYLIGHT (0.C.) HAMILTON, this day. Breaking into a private residence in Mill Street in broad daylight, thieves perpetrated an audacious theft, completely ransacking the house and removing a considerable quantity of furniture and personal effects, which they disposed of to an unsuspecting dealer. Mr. and Mrs. N. G. Bray, of 35, Mill Street, the owners of the furniture, were spending a holiday in Rotorua, and the daughter, a school teacher, had left a few days earlier to recommence teaching. After breaking into the house the thieves hired a local carrying firm, and after making a selection of the furniture removed a chesterfield suite and other articles, including carpets, and sold them in Hamilton. The very boldness of the scheme deceived neighbours, who noticed the furniture being rejnoved. Subsequently, however, one of them, becoming suspicious, telephoned a friend of Mr. i Bray and inquiries were instituted. Although the furniture has been ■recovered a glory box belonging to Miss Bray is still missing. It is understood the police expect to make an arrest at an early date.
