THE ATLANTIC CHARTER
So Accountant thinks that what he calls the powers of reaction are out to smash the Atlantic Charter. Most of us do not know, but would like to know, who exactly are the forces of reaction. Is it the financiers, the armament firms, the monopolies, or the whole of them who are responsible for perpetuating the present system of international racketeering. It seems quite clear, that even men like Mr. Churchill and President Roosevelt are powerless to stop this mumbo jumbo of the financiers-and racketeers. I feel sure that at least Accountant will agree that the advocates for monetary reform have a pretty strong case, for it is definitely certain that the enterprises mentioned in his letter could not operate without local and foreign credit, written up by private financial institutions from the Bank of England to the trading banks. To blame the politician is not fair, as the people generally get the Government they desire, and apathy in politics, by the many, have produced some very peculiar forms of governments during the last 30 years, and perhaps before.
