Delegation To Advise On Plan For Australia DISCUSSIONS AT CANBERRA
Rec. 2.30 p.m. CANBERRA, this day. Plans for free Australian medical service will be discussed this week by Commonwealth Government representatives and New Zealand social security officers now on a special mission here. The New Zealand delegation comprises Mr. H. Digby Smith, commissioner for social security, and Mr W. A. L. von Keisenberg, secretary to the Health Department. They are to consult with the Federal Social Security Parliamentary . Committee and the Prime Minister, Mr. Curtin. Points in the plan to be discussed ar e- (1) Free service to the community by doctors. (2) Free hospital accommodation. (3) Free medicine. (4) Free dental attention. Its. advocates hope the plan may be implemented, before the life of the present Parliament expires. The New Zealand delegation will be asked to advise on the financial aspects of the New Zealand scheme tnd the experience of the New Zealand Government in obtaining cooperation from the medical profession as well as on the .Dominion's experience in providing social, security benefits for unemployed for widows and their dependents, and for orphans.
