ALLOWANCES AND PAY
I am a soldier's wife left with three kiddies aged 13, 11 and 5 years respectively. When my hubby was taken to camp six months ago my rent was reduced from 28/9 to £1 1/3 per week, a grant of 7/6. As everyone knows, a shilling a day was given to all soldiers' wives towards the cost of living from November 1, 1942 I was notified yesterday that as I had an increase of 7/ per week on my allowance I would not be granted the 7/6 on my rent, and I have to pay full rent from last Thursday. Now, can you imagine that 7/ given to me to help feed and clothe my kiddies, and now they take it off me to' keep a roof over my head. Is this fair; naturally it is a State house I'm in. Perhaps they don't think it is enough taking my husband from me and leaving me to bring up the family on my own just at the age they need a daddy; 7/6 isn't much to grumble about perhaps, but it helped towards clothes each week, and when I look around and see what some get granted, well it certainly makes me wonder. SOLDIER'S WIFE.
