POLLING DAY
CHRISTCHURCH BY-ELECTION The Christchurch East by-election to fill the seat rendered vacant by the death of the late Mr. Armstrong, who represented the Government, is in progress to-day. The candidates are: Miss Mabel Howard (Government), Mr. M. E. Lyons (National), Mr. 11. E. Herring (Democratic Labour), Mr. O. J. F. McKee (Independent Socialist), and Mr. L. A. Afford (Peace candidate). There is expected to be a heavy poll. The final figures in the general election of 1938 were: Mr. Armstrong 10,561, Mr. K. Armour (National) 3382.
