DEPUTATION TO MAYOR
MEN FROM TAXI SERVICES Following remarks made at a meeting o; ? the Auckland City Council on Thursday evening by some councillors, a deputation representing the men of the Checker and Atta taxi fleets waited on the Mayor, Mr. Allum. yesterday. The deputation was led by Mr. S. W. Smith, who said later that Mr. Allum had assured them the remarks made by members were confined to drivers who had been charged with overcharging, and not to the industry generally. An assurance was also given that the morals of the men were not being questioned. The remarks were directed at a few men who had been overcharging and behaving in a manner'not compatible with good order and discipline. These men were apparently not owner-drivers, but were employed as assistants, and had no interest in the industry.
