FORGOTTEN WAR WORKERS

The letter of E.AI.C. against "essential workers'' is rather misplaced. A large proportion of war workers to-day are survivors from the last war, when New Zealand, from a population of just over a million, had some 65,000 casualties in killed and wounded. It was not found necessary during the last war to rob babies and children of essential oranges and fruits to benefit strong men in New Zealand. Nor were working clothes and socks unprocurable. The monopoly given the army in everything is distinctly being overdone—and especially to the home services. No one grudges the fighting men getting the best of everything, but the restrictions we suffer in New Zealand do not benefit our front line men to anv degree. It is simply a case of Government muddling. ESSENTIAL WORKER.
