NOT PERMITTED
UNDER VERANDAH LIGHTS POSITION IX WHANGAREI (0.C.) WHANGAREI, this day. According to advice received by the Whangarei Borough Council from the Dominion Lighting Controller, under-verandah lighting is not permitted in Whangarei while the present emergency continues. The Chamber of Commerce hod suggested a form of subdued lighting to avoid unseemly behaviour. The Mayor and several councillors considered there had been some exaggeration of nuisances in the streets. The number of military and civilian police on night duty has been increased.
