RADIO LICENSES
PAYMENTS IN AUCKLAND
An indication that there had been a good response to the Government's appeal to the public to pay radio licenses promptly, without waiting for reminders, was given to-day by the chief postmaster at Auckland, Mr. C. Clark, who said that in the past fortnight 18,500 listeners' licenses had been renewed in the Auckland area. This represented about 46 per cent of the total of 40.000 radio sets in Auckland. The percentage recorded compares with i 0 per cent on the corresponding day last October, but on this occasion the payment is for a full year, hence the amount collected ?h licensing lees is considerably creator. The department is collecting the full year's fee of 25/ to reduce accounting and other work ."wing to the staffing position under war conditions.
